More info

New for 2016, the Pelikan M205 with marbled blue barrel. Pelikan did produce a blue marbled M200 but this has been unavailable for a few years now. Instead of reintroducing that model, Pelikan has created a brighter blue marbled finish for the Classic M205 Series.

Fountain pen with plunger filling mechanism, rhodium plated fittings and differential piston-filled ink system. Resin barrel with rhodium plated ring pattern inlays and stainless steel nib (silver colour) as standard although the pen can be supplied in"upgraded" form with the 14k gold nib from the M405 as an upgrade option.

Pelikan nibs are easy to change due to the convenient screw fitting and we stock a wide range of nibs should you wish to buy additional point sizes or replacements.

The Pelikan Classic Series represents high value for money using technologies developed for the higher end Souverän series. All models feature Pelikan's unique differential piston filling system to ensure a large ink capacity with a visible indication of ink level via the translucent barrel (or portion of the barrel in the case of all black pens). All models are available with the hallmark striped celluloid overlay that has been associated with Pelikan fountain pens for half a century.

Good little workhorse

The Pelikan M205 model doesn't have the heft of its M800 or M1000 siblings, but I found its light handling to be an advantage if you want an everyday writer. The nib gives a good crisp line, with no skipping. And the piston system means that, even as a small pen, the M205 takes on a shedload of ink at a time.

When it comes to the new blue marbling, I'm a bit ambiguous. It's true there's no mistaking this pen for anything but a Pelikan: the cap, clip, and body shape are all identical to the larger Pelikans. I just wonder if the "Regency Stripe" pattern might have been a better choice, for me. It's a matter of personal taste, of course, and certainly the blue marbling is attractive. However, it does make the "see through" area on the lower barrel (where the amount of ink is visible) quite difficult to see.

The M205 won't sing, dance, or make the tea, but on the other hand it will keep going for many, many pages, while feeling light and easy in the hand. For those who want a good, practical small pen, the M205 is ideal.
