This pen is a spectacular deep translucent blue colour, following the theme of a famous Japanese collection of essays (The Pillow Book - a famous collection of essays by Sei Shonagon 966-1017 whilst in service of the Empress Teishi). In these stories, a humble servant girl describes a number of special colours which are seasonally related. This first one is the unique Midnight Sky as witnessed in the Summer months in Japan.
Comes fitted with a Sailor converter.
What we like:
We love this deep blue finish and the story behind the pen evokes a sense of timelessness.
"In summer, the night—moonlit nights, of course, but also at the dark of the moon, it’s beautiful when the fireflies are dancing everywhere in a mazy flight. And it’s delightful too to see just one or two fly through the darkness, glowing softly. Rain falling on a summer night is also lovely.”
